NOMAD/UltraQuest VSAM/QSAM Efficiencies (40% Improvement)

A recent enhancement to NOMAD is showing on average a 40% improvement reading VSAM/QSAM files with repeating groups; this translates to a reduction in CPU utilization and execution.

The first example is a large financial institution that asked us to take a look at their files and requests to see if there was anything that could be changed to make jobs run faster.  A Select Business Solutions consultant reviewed the files and suggested the necessary enhancements.  They found a 54% reduction in CPU time.

As you can see, this made a huge improvement and they have now had all of their schemas changed and seeing reductions in all of their current and new requests.


The second example is a hospital with large VSAM files and almost all requests require a join of two or more files.  After making changes the found an average 40% reduction even if the request was against a single file.
